The Study of the Health Promoting Behavior for Sixth Grade Elementary School Students
Kim Hye-Young

Abstract
This study was designed to identify factors affecting children¢¥s health promoting behaviors.
The purpose of this study was to promote guide health education of school-age children and enhance of health promoting behavior.
This study was based on Pender¢¥s Health Promotion Model relate to health promoting behaviors in a sample of sixth grade elementary school-age children.
This study selected cognitive-perceptual variables-health perception, importance of health ; and selected modifying variables-demographics(sex), interpersonal influence(sick member of family, the order of birth in sibling), behavior factor(hospital experience), situational factor(the number of lesson except school-learning).
The subjects in this study were 177 school-age children who convenience sampled 6th grade students of two elementary schools located in Taegu.
The instruments for this study were the Health Behavior Scale developed Ki(1985), the Health Value Scale developed by Wallston, Maides, Wallston(1980) and modified by Yun(19 89) and Health Perception Scale developed by Ware(1979) and translated by Lee(1987).
The data were analyzed using SAS program. The result of this study were as follow.
1. There were significant difference on sex(t=-3.33, p=0.0011), present health stare(F =3.75, p=0.0254), the order of birth in sibling(F=4.06, p=0.0189) of the health promoting behaviors.
2. The higher the health perception the higher the practice of health promoting behaviors(r=0.38, p=0.0001).
3. According to the analysis of variables predicting the practice of health promoting behavior, health perception, sex and the order of birth in sibling account for 26% of the practice of health promoting behavior.
This study showed health perception, sex and the order of birth in sibling effected
practice of health promoting behavior therefore the results reported support in part for Pender¢¥s Health Promotion Model.
On the basis of the above findings the following recommendations are made;
1. Further research is required to discover factors influencing health promoting behaviors of school-age children.
2. There is a need to study children¢¥s health promoting behaviors considered their home or school environmental factors.
3. Further research is need to identify between the order of birth in sibling and children¢¥s health promoting behaviors.
